The River South Tyne is born in the North Pennines and offers a very different landscape to that of the North Tyne Trail. The route shows the rivers’ many different moods from tinkling trickle to majestic wilderness as it passes through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) that includes waterfalls and deep ravines, making it’s way towards the ‘Meeting of the Waters’ at Warden, which is also the finish for the 70km challenge. Departing Warden, the route continues towards the industrial heritage of Tyneside and the full distance race finish at South Shields, a total of 140km.

Choose between the following 2 challenges:

Starting from the same location as the full distance race and following the same course, this fully supported 70km challenge finishes at the ‘Meeting of the Waters’ at Warden.
